Using custom connectors in plugin / virtual entity

Hi,

In Dynamics 365 (online) I would like to define a virtual entity which uses an on-premise (REST-) interface as data source. There are lot's of examples which show how to use virtual entities for publicly available data, but I couldn't find anything for the integration of on-premises systems.

I have a on-premises data gateway which is up and running and a custom connector which I already used in a sample PowerApp to access data from the on-premises system.

What I don't understand is: how can I use the custom connector in a Plugin for a virtual entity? Or can I use On-Premises Data Gateway directly from the Plugin?

Any ideas or hints are welcome.
