When I copy an email address into my Word document, a hyperlink of the email address is automatically created.  How do I prevent the hyperlink from being created?  All I want is the email address.

The 2 simplest ways to Undo the conversion without having to select anything or going into a separate dialog window:

  • You can follow Diane's suggestion to press Command+Z [or click Undo] after pressing the spacebar or return, or
  • Press the delete key rather than Command+Z.

To disable the the feature altogether go to Word> Preferences> AutoCorrect - AutoFormat As You Type to clear the check on Internet and network paths with hyperlinks. Keep in mind that this affects all hyperlinks including URLs, so if you choose it you will have to individually create hyperlinks when you do want them.

    Hi John_Hough,

I'm Charles, an Independent advisor trying to help.

I understand, you can do it in the following way, only that it is a manual process, in Word it is Insert >> Links >> Link >> Remove link, or through the commands that you will see in the article that handles these cases, if my memory does not fail it is a default feature.

I hope some step works for you

    Have a happy day

    Best Regards,

    Charles.

    Hi John,

You can cmd+Z to undo it (if it's the autocorrect feature).
