Activate Office 365 with proxy software

Hello,

In our enviroment we're working right now with a proxy configured in the browser and with this configuration it's working properly and after deploy Office 365 ProPlus it could be activated automatically without problem (just you open Word for example, and you can see your user activated). Now we're planning to deploy MCP, a proxy software, in order to configure the proxy in this software and no in the browser and when we use this configuration in a machine, then Office 365 it's not being activated autimatically (if you press over activate and introduce the corproate credentials, then yes, but not autimatically).

It looks, like Office doesn't detect any proxy autimatically (when it is not configured in the browser), and then couldn't send it to the proxy properly and perform the activation, we're thinking that this it's happening because in our internal netrowk, we cannot resolve external DNS (when cannot be resolved, the proxy perform the resolution and if Office it's not receiving the proxy configuration when it's configured in MCP, then doesn't know how to handle the request), it's because of that we would want to know which request perform Office when it's being opened any office aplication in order to perform the activation.

Thank you

Hi dadialla,

Thanks for the updates. I did a search in Office 365 URLs and IP address ranges and found this: activation.sls.microsoft.com

Normally we recommend turning off proxy when installing and activating since it will link to Office Online and many other URLs depending on different products and subscriptions, and if the above URL won't work, you could also do a search in the article I posted to check whether there are other URLs required for your environment.

At last, you could view some suggestions on this page: Using third-party network devices or solutions with Office 365.

Hope it could help: )

Br,

Oliver

Hi Oliver, thanks for your answer, we're prepackaging Office using ODT and SCCM to distribute Office to client computers but the problem it's not during the process instalation:

    example 1: We got a machine with Office 365 products already installed, but without MCP, with proxy configured in browser, then we open any office product and this is activated at the moment;

Example 2: We got a machine with Office 365 product already installed, but in this scneario we're goint to deploy MCP before open any office product, the MCP it's pointing to the same proxy that the first example (so the proxy rules are exactly the same), but nothing happens, the software show us the message that the product it's not activated.

Could be possible obtain the exact URLs that are involved in activation and what is the exe name of the Online Services Sign-in Assistant service? In this way, we can try to bypass it in MCP or perofrm other test. Thank you

    Hi dadialla,

Thanks for posting here. To confirm, after you deploy MCP for the whole environment, which method did you use to install Office365? Since normally only by installing from portal.office.com or My Apps&Installs page, the Office suite could be activated automatically. If we download install package or use ODT to install Office, we have to type credentials manually to activate.

Second, if you install from the portal but MCP prevents it from being activated automatically, could you check the log of MCP? The activation is a continuous process running in the background, so if you could add a rule to bypass Office 365 or a service called Microsoft Online Services Sign-in Assistant, maybe MCP won't prevent that. Since proxy servers may have different methods to mask the true origin of the request, we kindly suggest you turn off proxy settings temporarily to deploy Office 365, and this is a common idea when we meet activation issues.

    Have a nice day: )

    Br,

    Oliver
