I am having trouble Sharing a site folder in Sharepoint with View permissions. I am able to successfully share with editing permissions. I get the following error.

{"code":"-1, System.InvalidOperationException","message":{"lang":"en-US","value":"Flexible shares must have a Role that aligns to a valid Role Definition in the web"},"status":400,"correlationId":"5f5xxx9f-9xxx-a000-784f-575b537xxxx"}

Hi Victor_Arteaga,

Thanks for posting in the forum.

May I know the detailed steps you’ve take to share the folder with view permission in SharePoint online?

Please make sure you’ve followed the following steps to share the folder:

  1. Navigate to your SharePoint online document library containing the folder which you wish to share with view permission.
  2. Select the folder and then select Share.
  3. Click the dropdown list to change the type of link, select the option for Who would you like this link to work for (options vary based on admin settings).
  4. By default, Allow editing is turned on. As you want people to only view your files, uncheck the check box. When you're done, click Apply.
  5. Enter the names of the people you want to share with and a message, if you want.
  6. When you’re ready to send the link, click Send.

Reference: Share SharePoint files or folders

If you still get the same error, please provide the following information:

  1. What permission do you have on the site/library?
  2. Please confirm if you are sharing the folder with internal user or external.
  3. For the test purpose, from another library try sharing a sample folder with view permission, check if you still get the same error.
  4. If possible, please check with your colleagues if can they share the folder (with view permission).
  5. Were you able to share the folder with view permission in past?

Thanks,

Neha
