OneDrive keep processing Excel files!

Please check the video, I basically cannot work when I open a template located on a local OneDrive folder!

Every time I double-click a cell the "PROCESSING" pop-up appears... any editing and the "PROCESSING" appears... if I try to save it the "PROCESSING" appears.

If I do it quickly I can save it locally out of the OneDrive folders, and everything goes to normal and the file can be edited without problems or interruptions.

It must be something related with OneDrive.

This is a BRAND NEW machine, I am running the LATEST versions of OneDrive and Excel (16.29.1).

I had this issue with MacOs Catalina, Mojave, Sierra etc. etc.

I was able to remove this issue by "clearing" the At startup, open all files in:

Still having issues with AutoSave, very very unreliable! I had to turn it off...

Microsoft OneDrive needs to tell us if that file that we are open is ALREADY OPEN by another user... like Dropbox does!

    Hi S9Delta,

Thanks for your reply with more information about this issue.

Per your description, this issue only happens when you open a Template (.xltx) located in a OneDrive sync folder (with File collaboration feature activated in OneDrive). I've also tested on my side but cannot encounter this issue. More suggestions as below:

    1. On your Mac, create a new Excel template file (.xltx) and drag it to the OneDrive sync folder, check whether issue persists. If issue disappear, try to copy the contents from the problematic Excel template to the newly created Excel template. This may be the most efficient way to get rid of this issue.

If issue even persists on newly created Excel templates. Another two suggestions as below:

*Note: Make sure all your files in OneDrive sync folder have been synced successfully.

    1. Reset the OneDrive app.

Step1: Quit OneDrive. (Select the cloud icon in the top tray, then select Settings > Quit OneDrive.)

Step2: Open Finder, find OneDrive in your Applications folder.

Step3: Right-click OneDrive and select Show Package Contents. Browse to the Contents -> Resources folder.

    Step4: Double-click ResetOneDriveApp.command (or ResetOneDriveAppStandalone.command if you're using the standalone app).

Start OneDrive and finish the setup process.

    1. Reinstall OneDrive.

    Step1: Drag OneDrive to Trash.

Step2: Click here to download the latest OneDrive for Mac client.

Step3: Start OneDrive and finish the setup process.

If all the suggestions don't work, would you mind sharing a newly created problematic Excel templates to me? I can do more tests on my side.

    Regards,

    YS

The problem is ONLY when I open a TEMPLATE (.xltx) that is located in a OneDrive sync folder...

If I save it (locally or in a OneDrive folder) everything goes to normal, but the problem is also saving it because the "PROCESSING" pop-up always blocks any operations.

And this also happens only if I turn on FILE COLLABORATION (as image below). If I turn it off the "PROCESSING" pop-up never appears!!

    Hi S9Delta,

I'm not sure why your OneDrive version is 19.152.0927.0011, but I’d like to help you on this issue. Hoping you won't mind.

Since Office for Mac supports Apple’s three most recent versions of macOS, I did my testing on my High Sierra (With Excel 16.29.1 and OneDrive Standalone 19.152.0801.0007), unfortunately I cannot encounter the same issue. I would like to give you some suggestions as below:

*Backup the affected Excel worksheet to avoid possible data loss.

    1. Drag the Excel worksheet to your Desktop and drag it back to the OneDrive sync folder, then try to open the Excel worksheet and edit on it to see result.
    2. Change the Excel worksheet's name and drag it back to the OneDrive sync folder to test.
    3. Change the Excel worksheet's extension (such as change from .xls to .xlsx) to test.

If the issue persists, could you tell me more information about this issue? I'm willing to help you further.

    1. Where did you download the OneDrive sync client? Have you tried to update it?
    2. Does this issue happens to all Excel worksheets locate in the local OneDrive sync folder? If you create a new Excel worksheet and drag to the OneDrive sync folder, open it via Excel and edit on it, will this issue occur?
    3. Will this issue occur to other types of Office files (such as PowerPoint presentation and Word documents) locate in the local OneDrive sync folder?

    Regards,

    YS
