Public Folder Permissions

Hi,

I've setup a public folder for testing directly after root level. Even there are no folder permissions in place, all users have read/write access to this public folder. Maybe I do misunderstand the concept of public folder permissions? Does no setting mean "author" permission by default?

    Hi fsgap,

    Thank you for your reply.

Regarding your description about “if you create public folder in EAC, by default, members in Org have author permission?”, by default permission for public folder is “Publishing Editor”, after that click on “Browse” option > select User > click on Ok > click on Save.

    Here is the screenshot.

For changing permission for public folder, after clicking "Folder permission manage" option >  click on pencil symbol > change the permission as per your requirement.

Hopefully above information will useful for you.

    Regards,

    Darpan

    Hi fsgap,

Thank you for your reply. Regarding your description, if the user is using Outlook desktop client, public folders in Outlook give you a great place to collect, organize, and share information about particular topics or projects within an organization. "Public" in this case means viewable by everyone within the organization.

You may refer this detailed article: https://support.office.com/en-us/article/create-and-share-a-public-folder-in-outlook-a2835011-d524-4a5c-a207-05c159bb2a97?redirectSourcePath=%252farticle%252fd5981360-28d3-4c8f-a373-c98ae570420a&ui=en-US&rs=en-US&ad=US

Also, for further analysis, I need to collect below information from your side.

    1.       Could you please provide us detailed steps and screenshot about “how did you created public folder”?

    2.       Kindly provide us detailed screenshot and information about “from where you have added public folder”? Is it from Outlook desktop client or Outlook web app?

    3.       Could you please provide us detailed screenshot about “from where you have added permission for public folder? Is it from Outlook desktop client or Office 365 admin Center?

    Regards,

    Darpan

It seems you misunderstand my query. I just add myself owner permission.  However, members in org also have read/write access to this public folder. let me know if this is by default or not

    Hi fsgap,

Thank you for the posting in our forum community.

Regarding your description, for public folder permission, after creating the public folder, you will need to assign the Owner permission level so that at least one user can access the public folder from the client and create subfolders. You may refer this detailed article about: Set up public folders in a new organization
