Removing Duplicate ID's

I have a spreadsheet with approximately 1,500 unique ID codes.  I used conditional formatting to identify duplicates, but when I select remove duplicates, it says there are no duplicates found.  There are plenty of them, and I would like for it identify the unique ID code and the number of them found, and remove the additional.  Why is it not allowing me to do this?

Do you have only one column of data? Remove duplicates looks at entire rows of your table by default, so you should either make sure that you are having it only look at the single column of IDs,
