On more than one occasion mine has seemed to purge a few hundred words that have already been added which requires a lot of repeat spell checking.

Is there a limit to the size of RoamingCustom.Dic ?

Or is there a known explanation for what I experience?

Hi klarmstrongmd,

You can save five thousand words in a custom dictionary, but it must not be no longer than sixty-four kilobytes in file size. If you exceed more than five thousand words, we recommend creating a new one and save it locally. In your case, it is possible that the words are deleted when the Office application is restarting. To help resolve your issue, try**updating the Word app**. If it’s a no go, you can repair the Office app and check if it helps solve the concern. Uninstalling and re-installing the app will be last option if every troubleshooting is done.

Update us with the outcome so we can assist you further.

Bob

Yes, you may cut your current RoamingCistom.Dic into ten files if needed, to comply with the 5000 words limit. You may also name them from RoamingCustom01.Dic to RoamingCustom10.Dic to avoid confusion but please take note that you might not get the best exprience due to the volume of the custom dictionary. You can also create a new RomingCustom11.Dic and set it as a default, even though all of the dictionaries are active.

If you need further assistance, let us know.

RE: "creating a new one and save it locally"

Does this mean that I should cut-up my current RoamingCustom.Dic file into ten files complying with the 5000 word limit?

If so, can I name them RoamingCustom01.Dic thru RoamingCustom10.Dic and insert into the same local directory where RoamingCustom.Dic now resides?

If so, can I then create a new empty RoamingCustom11.Dic as the "default" dictionary and designate all of these dictionaries as active?

It would seem that I exceed sixty-four kilobytes in file size.

    1. I regret that I did not know that the limit was so low.
    2. My current RoamingCustom.Dic line count is 49774.... but I deleted a few dozen words yesterday.
    3. Knowing this, what would you propose as my next step?
