I have a scenarion like this

I started a word document in Notebook A, add around 25 figure with figure caption .

Each time adding new figure, the number grown up like (Figure 26: your figure caption)

I upload that in onedrive.

Now I am not able to use Notebook A and have to switch to notebook B

In notebook B , I login to onedrive and open the document.

I want to add a cross reference to a figure

so I use cross reference function.

select the text I wanted to have the reference to the figure.

select cross reference. choose figure.but no figure is showing

when i do some reference for the table which i created in laptop A

the list of table is showing.

PS: The figure directory i generate with word build-in is still there. the figure caption below the figure also. But when I add new figure (picture) . the numbering start at 1 (Figure 1:).

I dont really want to add the whole figure caption again.

Can anyone help me ?

Thanks

How are you creating the numbering? How are you creating your cross-references?

If you made use of the Caption feature, you should be able to insert a cross-reference to a figure via References > Cross-reference.

If you send me a copy of the document, referencing this thread in the covering email message, I will investigate the issue.

Thanks for the follow-up. I guess you mean that you are using auto-numbering rather than the Caption feature (available via the References tab on the ribbon)?

    Problem solved.

I found out that I use my own Caption which look similar to the add-in caption, except that the space between Figure and number is smaller, which i prefer.

So what i did is deleting the word add in caption "Figure   1" and create new caption "Figure 1". Word recognize this style of caption and prompt out the whole caption in cross-reference list for me.

Many thank for your willing to help :d
