Cannot pin a specific file in Excel

Hello,

I am using Office 365 on Windows 7.  I have a file stored in OneDrive that I access daily.  I'd like to pin it to the top of the recent files list when I select File > Open, but I cannot.  Clicking the push pin does nothing, right clicking and selecting "Pin to list" does nothing.  I am able to pin other files both inside and outside of OneDrive, just not that one.

How can I fix this?

    Hi d_g_schaefer,

Thank you for your message in this forum.

According to your description, it seems that you cannot pin the specific file to list in Excel.

May I know if the scenario above is consistent with yours? If so, since this problem only occurs on a specific file, we’d suggest you go to OneDrive and create a new Excel file, then you can open it in Excel and pin it to list to check if the same problem will occur. If it works, we’d suggest you copy the content of problematic and paste it into new file to check if the same problem will occur.

If the problem still persists after trying the suggestion above, could you go to Excel > File > Account and provide the screenshot of Product Information?

    Best Regards,

    Sukie

I went into the OneDrive folder and made a copy of the problem file with the default name of [filename]-copy.  I was able to pin the copy.

I renamed the original to [filename]-archive and renamed the new copy to [filename].

I then opened the copy, now with the same name as the original, and was no longer able to pin it.

I then deleted the new copy and renamed the original back to [filename].  Still cannot pin it.

I renamed the original to [newfilename] and I am now able to pin it.

It was somehow related to the original file name, I guess.  Doesn't make sense, but it's fixed now.

    Hi d_g_schaefer,

We appreciate that you provided the detailed test results.

Per your description, it seems that this issue is related to original file name, and after renaming the original file name, the problem has been fixed.

If so, we’re glad to hear that you found the solution and fixed the problem. At the same time, we have also searched a lot and we didn’t find any limitation about file name to pin to list.

If it is convenient to you, you can also send your problematic file name and we can test it on our side to check if we can reproduce the same situation.

In the meantime, if you have any other questions, you can post a new thread in our forum and our engineers will try their best to help you.

    Best Regards,

    Sukie
