HI, every time I try to update my table of contents I am getting this error: ERROR! NO FILENAME SPECIFIED IN DOCUMENT REFERENCE ON PAGE 1 as the first line in my TOC. I cannot figure out what this means or how to resolve it. Any help would be much appreciated! Thank you.

I was able to figure out how to fix it, I am not sure what the underlying issue was but I was able to find which heading it was and delete the copy inside. Thanks for the responses!

If you send me a copy of the document, referencing this thread in the covering email message, I will investigate the issue.

Hi Ashley I'm Peter an independent advisor, don't suppose you could upload a screen shot? Are you trying to update a table of contents when you see the error message?
In that case, press Alt+F9 to reveal the underlying field code. What do you
    see?
