Potential Bug - SharePoint Modern Libraries - Collapsed - Grouped Views Not Updating When Files Are Dragged and Dropped

Has anyone else experienced this issue on their tenant? Please see the steps below to reproduce the issue.

  • Make sure you are in the modern experience
  • Create a grouped view based off a custom column that does NOT have a default value selected
    • Make sure the grouped view is set to "Collapsed" not expanded
    • It helps if you populate the library with some test files
  • Expand one of the groups
  • Drag a drop a file from your desktop into one of the groups
    • You can determine where the file will get categorized by dragging over the headings and you will see a border surrounding the grouped header name
  • After you drop the file - you should notice the library telling you it uploaded a file
  • If you're having the same issue as my tenant, then you shall also see a faint grayed out blank space appear at the bottom (or maybe top) of the files in that group. (it also helps you to see the issue if you don't have very many files in the group).
  • It's like the interface is trying to update and show you the new file being added to the group but instead it shows a blank/grayed out space
  • The above does not happen in the classic view.

How to fix this

  • So far the only remedy I have found - short of reverting back to classic is to make sure that the grouped view is set to EXPANDED

I have a ticket in to MS for this...I'm just curious to see if this is just my tenant or a more widespread issue w/ the modern grouped/collapsed views. Thanks for reading and thanks for your input!

    Hi Michael,

    Thanks for your sharing.

I did a test and found the behaviour matches your description:

The new added items could not appear until I refresh and enter the page again.

Our team has collected the BUG repro steps, and since you have opened a support ticket and had an workaround, I could not provide more suggestions other than that.

Thanks for your understanding and supporting again.

    Have a nice day: )

    Best Regards,

    Oliver
