"Potential Security Concern"

When trying to open a Word file (docx) located in a subfolder of my Documents, I'm getting the popup "MS Office has identified a potential security concern."  In Trust Center settings, I have marked as trusted my Documents and all subfolders thereof. So why am I getting this popup and how do I disable it? I don't get this popup for other files.

If you can open it, do so. Create a new document and copy everything from the old one into it EXCEPT the last paragraph mark.

You may have to redo some headers and footers.

    Close the old document.

Save the new one and try opening the new one.

To clarify, "Document 1" has a link to "Document 2" and when I click on that link, I get the security warning. So, Charles, I followed your instructions. I'm able to open the new Document 2 from File Explorer without any security warning, but I still get the security warning when clicking on the link to open it from the other document. I deleted the link and link text, and re-set it, but am still getting the security warning.

    Hi Charles,

From Safe Mode, I got the same message when trying to open that file. The file at issue is a single document, a Word file that I myself created. What should I do?

    Hi Doug,

    1. This is different from the macro warning.
    2. You almost certainly do not want to trust everything in your Documents folder but rather only certain folders that contain files with macros that you trust.
    3. Your trusted locations should have nothing to do with this warning, anyway.
    4. Is this one document or many?
    5. Do you have the problem if you open Word in safe mode?

*Safe mode is not a way to regularly use Word, but it is a valuable diagnostic step. If your problem goes away when you use Safe mode, we can walk you through other steps that may help eliminate the problem.*Please write back.
