My OneNote crashed and I've lost everything.  When I try and restore from a backup, OneNote crashes again.  Please help.  I'm lost without OneNote.

    Hi Janet,

Sorry for my late response as I was out of the office for several days.

If OneNote for the Windows 10 keeps on crashing after reinstalling it, maybe you could send feedback to OneNote for the Windows 10

development team by pressing WIN key + F to seek help. They read all feedback.

    Appreciate your understanding.

    Best regards,

    Madoc

    Hi Janet,

    Thanks for your updates.

You can try to reinstall OneNote for Windows 10 to solve this issue. As long as notes are saved in OneDrive, they can be restored to the OneNote correctly.

Before uninstalling OneNote, you can try to fix it by following these steps:

    1. Select the Start button, then select Settings > Apps > Apps & features.

    1. Select OneNote**> Advanced options**.
    2. Try Terminate, Repair and Reset in turn.

If the OneNote still crashes, you can click the Uninstall button of that window to uninstall OneNote. And open Windows Store > search OneNote > Download and install it.

After completing the above steps, you can sync the saved notes to OneNote for Windows 10 from OneDrive for Business.

    Best regards,

    Madoc

    Hi Janet,

Sorry for the inconvenience it caused you.

If the lost notes are synced to OneDrive correctly before OneNote crashing, then these notes might be found in OneDrive. You can follow the steps mentioned in Check your OneDrive folder part of Find my lost notes to try to find these notes.

And to troubleshoot the OneNote crash issue, we’d like to collect some information to further check the scenario:

    1. Which OneNote do you have? OneNote 2016 or OneNote for Windows 10?
    2. Is there any error message? If so, please take a screenshot of it and share it with us.
    3. Are there any problems with other Office applications?

    Best regards,

    Madoc

Thanks for the response.  I tried to sync to OneDrive, but OneNote crashed while attempting the sync.  I made a backup of all of my OneNote notebooks yesterday, but can't restore because OneNote stops responding during the restoration.

And to troubleshoot the OneNote crash issue, we’d like to collect some information to further check the scenario: (I bolded and italicized my responses)

    1. Which OneNote do you have? OneNote 2016 or OneNote for Windows 10? I have OneNote for Windows 10.
    2. Is there any error message? If so, please take a screenshot of it and share it with us. There have been various error messages, but I didn't get a screenshot.  Now, OneNote just stops responding and I have to close the application.
    3. Are there any problems with other Office applications?I am not having any other issues with any other Office applications.

Can I reinstall the application and then restore from my backup?  I quite literally am in the stone age without my OneNote notes.  I kept every meeting and phone call notes there, as well as, links/URLs to all of my resources.  I had all of my projects in OneNote and didn't keep written records of any of these.  Please help.
