Excel data connection passwords

I am trying to create an Excel file that uses a data connection to an SQL Server using database credentials so that I can give the file to another user and they can refresh the data themselves.  I can create the connection, provide the database credentials, and refresh the data myself but the credentials disappear when someone else opens the file and tries to refresh the data.

Any suggestions?  I've seen some posts about a "save connection password" option when you setup the connection, but I think the walkthroughs I find are for older versions of Excel.  They don't match up with what I'm seeing when I try to follow along.

Any advice is welcome.

    Hi,

Although I'm not familiar with Sharing connecting files, Here is an official article especially under Sharing connections which say ODC files are the recommended method for connecting to data and sharing data.
