MS Word Template has weird autocorrect functionality

Hi,

A graphic designer has made a word template for me; however, when you use it the autocorrect functionality is WHACK!

No spelling mistakes are underlined

Any word starting with "i" is capitalised --> INPUT: is --> Is   (e.g. When there Is rain Information we will know more)

Some words autocomplete --> INPUT: whic --> which = whichh (some words will autocomplete after three or so letters which means the final word ends up with additional letters)

This only occurs in this one template. I have never seen it before and when I look in to the settings everything appears to be normal.

Is there any solution to this?

AutoCorrect Options are user options on a given computer. They cannot be set in a document.

Spell checking is controlled by the proofing language setting. Try selecting the entire document and checking the proofing language. Is "do not check spelling or grammar" checked? You want the checkbox to be clear, with nothing in it.

In Word, the spelling dictionary will depend on the language applied to text. Language formatting is an attribute, much the same as bold or italic. In the problem document, select all the text and (re-)apply the desired language via the Language dialog box (Review > Language > Set Proofing Language).

Applying the correct language will almost certainly fix the AutoCorrect issues as well, since unformatted AutoCorrect entries are language-dependent.

Also, since the Muli font seems to be part of the problem, what is specific with that font? For example, are you using it with a non-Latin script?

Ok Noah, let's try this, change or remove this rule in the Word options for that template, File > Options > Proofing > AutoCorrect options > click on AutoCorrect Options.... find i in below list, you will see this rule: "i" replaced by "I", so select that rule and remove it, then click on "Ok" and try again.

By the way, check the same list if all the rules are ok for your purpose.

Right, I understand you, I see that you use 'Mali' font for that template, what happens if you change the font by a Word native font like Calibri, does still have the same behavior?

    Dear NoahBell,

Thanks for participating in the Microsoft Community. I'm an Independent Advisor and I'll help you.

Can you share the template file in order to verify whats happens with the spelling settings?

If you can, put the file without any sensitivity or personal information in a shared folder in your Onedrive, and add the link in thread.

Do not hesitate to ask if you need more information.

I hope it has been useful to you.

    Regards,

    Renzo.
