Are you trying to Construct an IF statement containing merge fields in Word?

Possible to give some more details?

Once you inserted the Fieldcodes and confirmed correct logic, adjust the text box size.

May I know why you need to show the filed codes instead of its output?

It will probably be easier to construct the required field code outside the box, toggle it to display the field result, and then paste it into the box. Older versions of Word had an option to "Resize AutoShape to fit text" (as shown below), but if this option is available in current versions, I haven't been able to find it."
