Import shared OneNote notebook

Hi! My friend has just shared his Onenote with a link (able to edit) with me. However, when I opened it, I can only edit in on the website instead of in my own Onenote app. Also, I could not find the button 'edit in app' as mentioned by previous replies. How can I insert it into my Onenote as a new notebook?

Hi SC_612,

I have tested on my side. Sharing a notebook by “anyone with the link” means anyone can reach your notebook with the link, so it is an anonymous link which let guests get shared files without verification. For security reason, Microsoft only gives guests access to view and edit them online.

In that case, if a guest can’t get shared files unless he has signed in or verified, he will open them in App. So here is my advice:

1.       Let your friend share the notebook by option:” specific people”.

2.       You will receive a verification email. After verifying, you can open the notebook both online and in APP.

Hope these can help you.

Regards,

Robinson

    Hi,

Apologies, I didn’t catch it earlier that you are using OneNote for Mac.

Please click File > Share > Copy Link to Notebook
Then click the button below, “Anyone with the link can edit >”
Anyone with the link is checked
Check Other settings, please ensure that “Allow editing” checkbox is ticked.
    Then click Apply.

    Thanks and regards,
    Anna

    Thanks for your prompt reply.

However, my friend also could not find the button shown as the link your provided, but with this:

"File" --> Share" --> "copy link to notebook"/ "Manage access"
