Help please with SharePoint Document Sets Welcome Page Issue

I have a collaboration site with 9 different document sets. I have one document library where I use a list web part to display the document sets. When you click on a doc set you should only see the content within that individual doc set. A few of the doc set welcome pages aren't behaving the way they should. When i go to customize the welcome page for any of the 5 doc sets that aren't working right, it updates the welcome pages for all of those 5 doc sets. I want each individual doc set welcome page to display their own individual view that i have already set up but when I change the view for one it changes all 5.

For those 5 sets that aren't working, when I go to edit the welcome page it says " You are editing the Welcome Page for all 'Document Set' document sets in this document library. But for the ones that are working properly it says "You are editing the Welcome Page for all '**** Content Type' document sets in this document library". How can i get the 5 doc sets to update on their own respective welcome pages?

I have looked at all of the content type settings side by side comparing the ones that work and the ones that done. Everything looks the same with the following exceptions:

  1. For the doc sets that are working, if I go the the doc set home page the URL shows "content type/docsethomepage.aspx". and if I click on the "Manage" Tab then Edit Properties the page contains: Content Type with drop down box where I can choose that particular content type, the Name field and two meta data fields I added.
  2. For the doc sets that are NOT working, if I go the the doc set home page the URL shows "forms\docsethomepage" and and if I click on the "Manage" Tab then Edit Properties the page contains: Content Type with drop down box where I can only choose Document Set or Folder (no content type), and then the Name field.

I have looked at all the setting side by side and they look the same. Every content type setting, etc., but this is driving me crazy. I am using classic mode on this site as well.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this or how I might be able to fix it?

    Hi DaisyITGirl,

Thanks for your video in PM link.

I watched video and your post several times. I noticed that you have 2 scenarios. I test it at my end, I found if I create a Document Sets content type use the default Document Sets content type, the URL will all be Forms/Test%20Document%20Set/docsethomepage.aspx? and I can see the notification in page.

Per my test and research, when you click Edit Page to edit this content type welcome page. This change is for all this content type, it’s by design in SharePoint Online.  In your Set Content Settings, you have many different Document Set types, they look like same. But if you Add different content type in Document library, when you edit different welcome page, they won’t update together. (Because of the different content type.)

We suggest you check the problematic content type, to see if they are the same kind of Document Set content type.

    To make a explanation:

When i edit welcome page of Test Document Set content type, the welcome page of 1111 content type won't change.

    Regards,

    Ivy

    Hi DaisyITGirl,

Sorry for the inconvenience caused by this issue.

I tested at my end by following steps:

    1.        Create a new created classic site.

    2.        Created a Document Set content Type.

    3.        Add this Document Set content Type to a document library.

    4.        Create 5 Document Sets item and add a web part of this document library.

    5.        When I click respective welcome page to edit, I did not find the same prompt error message.

    Hi Ivy,

Thank you for your response. I think I understand what I did wrong but i'm not sure how to fix it now.

I created multiple Document Sets content type using the "default" Document Sets content type.  I already have documents in these documents sets that are using the meta data.  Can you tell me if there is a way to go fix the contents types so that they are not using the "default"  Document Sets content type?  Since there are already documents in these doc sets it is difficult to just delete the Document Sets and start over.

Do you know if there is a way to correct this?

    Many Thanks!

    Hi DaisyITGirl,

Thanks for coming back and checking my reply.

To use a new Document set content type to store files, we suggest you follow the steps here:

    1. Go to Site content type to create a new custom Document set content type. (Click Createbutton-> and set information like this

    )

    1. Go to library setting-> Content types-> Add from existing site content type->Scroll down to the new create one -> Add-> Ok.

    1. Go to Document library-> +New-> This new custom Document set content type.
    2. Sync this library use OneDrive sync client. (Click sync button.)
    3. Copy files of the previous Document set content type folder, then paste them to the new Document set content type.

    1. Go to library setting in SharePoint Online, choose the previous Document set content type and delete it.

    1. After you copy the files, it will sync to the SharePoint library. You don’t need to worry files will lose.

New you have the new content type and all the files are move to the new one. Hope my steps would help.

    Regards,

    Ivy
