When I make a table and highlight it, a little square shows at the bottom right corner. Never had this problem before. How do I get rid of it?

That is normal behaviour the little square has always been there. Even is the table is not highlighted but the cursor is in the table it should be there. You use it to enlarge or shrink the table as a whole by dragging with your mouse.
Interesting. I have NEVER seen that before. And I've been working with tables for a long time.
