Onenote import notebook function not working

Nothing happens when I click the "import" button in the import saved notebook screen in onenote. I have tested this both the Edge and Firefox with popup blocker turned off but it hasn't worked.

I read somewhere that this function is only available for a personal onenote account, if so then would appreciate some help in how I can import a notebook into a business onenote account.

    Hi FN_68,

We appreciate that you posted back.

Per your description, it seems that you have opened the notebook from desktop in OneNote 2016, then you used Share feature in OneNote 2016 to change the location of notebook and sync the notebook to cloud. However, it takes a long time to sync.

If my understanding is correct, and if you saved your notebooks in your OneDrive for business or SharePoint Online, we’d suggest you use OneDrive sync client to sync your notebook to OneDrive for business or SharePoint Online. You can move your notebook from desktop to your OneDrive sync folder, then the file will be synced to your OneDrive for business or SharePoint Online automatically. For more details, you can refer to this article: Sync files with OneDrive in Windows.

And you can also refer to this article: Invalid file names and file types in OneDrive, OneDrive for Business, and SharePoint to achieve the limit apply to an individual file being uploaded or synced is 15GB.

    Best Regards,

    Sukie

    Thanks Sukie,

I was able to add the notebook from the desktop version and then moved the desktop directory to the online directory using file/setting/share or move in the app to point to the same place as my other notebooks. It does however take a long time to sync (around 1.5 hrs and still not complete), would depend on the size of the file I imagine.

    Regards

    Hi FN_68,

Thank you for your message in this forum.

According to your description, it seems that you want to import your notebook to your business account.

If so, we’re afraid that there is no out of box way to achieve that with business account. If you want to use this feature, you need to use Microsoft account, for more details, you can refer to this article:  Export and import OneNote notebooks. We’re sorry that it doesn’t meet your requirement.

We understand the situation and you make a great point. To address your concern about the situation, we’d suggest you kindly vote this UserVoice: Add the ability to export and import OneNote notes and notebooks in Office365 for business.. This is the best platform to let us hear from you and make our products and services better for you and others.

For a workaround, you can use OneNote 2016 > File > Open > you can select notebook from the local. As shown below:

Then you can sync your notebooks to OneNote Online.

    Thank you for your understanding!

    Regards,

    Sukie
