Is there a way to uncheck this box as the default when inserting tables? I have searched and searched but cannot find a way to change Word's default.

I have submitted a request to the Word Product Team for them to modify the Table Style modification feature to allow this option to be set for a Table Style.

At the moment, that option cannot be set when modifying a Table Style, and even though that box appears to be unchecked, when the option is accessed via the Table Properties dialog (after applying the Table Style) the option to "Automatically resize to fit contents" remains in effect.

You might also make a request for the feature via http://word.uservoice.com/

What you can do is create an example table with fixed dimensions and then save it as a building block for easy reuse.

Unfortunately that won’t work. I’m trying to set up a global normal.dotm for my business. I want it to be the default to not auto resize content in word for inserting tables.

You can save your building block in a template (the Normal template or a custom template) so it would certainly be a possibility.

Of course, the building block would be a table with a specified number of rows and columns, and you would have to change that in many cases after having inserted the building block. However, any other settings for the table as a whole could be re-used like this, in a rather quick way.

If you can't use a building block, your only option would be to make use of a macro.
