Hi,

Wondering how to apply the workaround for a split database that is physically located on a main server in a different region.  Any suggestions?  Is there a workaround for the workaround?

Thanks,

Well that would be the problem.  The only thing I can think of is to make copies of the Frontend and give each User a shortcut to that Frontend.  Not sure that will help as it also depends on HOW they are accessing the VPN.  If they are using wifi then you may still get issues as wifi not stable enough for databases, they don't like glitches.

All users enter the same front end on a VPN shared network.

Hmm, need a wee bit more information.  Connected how, VPN, Citrix?  Does each User have their own Frontend or are they all using the same Frontend?  Are people using a hard wired network?

    Hi. SueKue

I'm Robert, an Independent Advisor trying to help.

In that case, by consulting links in our community, you can do the following to share a database through a shared folder:

    1. Make sure Access is set to open in shared mode on all users' computers. This is the default setting, but you must ensure that, if a user opens the database exclusively, it will interfere with the availability of the data.

    a. Start Access and in File click on Options.

    b. In the Access Options box, click Client Settings.

    c. In the advanced section, in default opening mode, select shared, click OK and then exit Access.

    1. Copy the database file to the shared folder. After copying the file, make sure that the file attributes are set to allow read and write access to the database file. Users must have read and write access to use the database.
    2. On each user's computer, create a shortcut to the database file.

    Regards,

    Robert.
