"Error: File not found", when editing document properties from the details panel in the modern view using Google Chrome.

Way to reproduce:

  1. Create document library, (enable document sets), add new folder (or document set) to the library, add file to folder
  2. Create new View from All Documents. Set View to show All Documents without Folders.
  3. Add direct link to the view to the left menu of the SharePoint site (using format /sites/SITENAME/DOCUMENTLIBARYNAME/Forms/VIEWNAME.aspx)
  4. Click "Documents" link from the left menu (You see the All Documents View)
  5. Click link to the view that you added earlier (You see view that shows files without folders)
  6. Activate some file and try to edit properties using details panel.
  7. You get an error that says "File not found"

Network details:

Request URL: https://XXX.sharepoint.com/sites/SITENAME/\_api/web/GetList(@a1)/items(@a2)/ValidateUpdateListItem()?@a1=%27undefined%27&@a2=%27149%27

Request Method: POST

Status Code: 404

If you reload page, you can edit properties without error.

    Hi,

That incident does not have anything to do with this bug. There is bug in the JavaScript. It does not make POST-requests to right address in the described situation.

    1. All sites have problem descriped (I created new site and I tested there)
    2. All of our users have this problem

    Simo

I have this exact same problem with the same scenario (Set View to show All Documents without Folders, and creating links in the nav), did you ever get a resolution?  I have raised a ticket through the admin portal.

    Hi S1m0,

We appreciate that you posted back.

According to your description, it seems that not only one user has this problem. Given this situation, recently, there is an issue was posted to the Service Health Dashboard (SHD) as incident SP195739 starting at November 13, 2019, at 3:00 PM UTC.

The user experience of this incident is: Users may be intermittently unable to access SharePoint Online sites or OneDrive for Business content.

Current status: We're aware of an issue intermittently impacting users ability to access SharePoint Online sites and OneDrive for Business content, in addition to other features. We've concluded that SQL infrastructure is experiencing an overwhelming load, however, we have not identified the source of impact. We're reviewing configurations for the affected infrastructure to formulate a mitigation plan.

Tenant administrators can view current information and updates on SHD at the link here

You can check if the scenario above is consistent with yours, if the scenario above is not consistent with yours, I also want to confirm the information below with you:

    1. May I know if all sites have the same problem?
    2. May I know if all the other users have the same problem?

    Best Regards,

    Sukie

    Hi,

this problem occurs on every network, browser, computer and Sharepoint Site collection that I have tried (IE, Firefox, Edge and Chrome). Yes we can bypass that by reloading the page, but tell that to many users that ask why this does not work. This started a couple of weeks ago.

Microsoft has made it difficult to report bugs directly to them. Maybe I try escalate this to be a support request by contacting our partners, if you can't report bugs directly to the Sharepoint team.

    Br,

    Hi S1m0,

Thank you for your message in our forum. We also appreciate that you spent time providing so detailed steps.

According to your description, it seems that you encountered an error(Error 404: File not found) when you edit properties using details panel. However, if you reload page, you can edit properties.

May I know if the scenario above is consistent with yours? If so, it may be related to browser or internet.

Given this situation you encountered, we’d suggest you try another browser or try incognito windows to check if the same problem will occur.

At the same time, you can also try another Internet environment to check if the same problem will occur.

    Best Regards,

    Sukie
