Section page numbering

Question

I have a problem with page numbering.

My document is divided into sections with a section break. My page numbers are within the footer. I am able to number the pages correctly using Page Formatting and choosing "continue from previous section" I number the whole document correctly and then go off to work on other aspects of the document. I do nothing with page numbering.

Strangely the page numbering resets itself to numbering within each section beginning with page zero. I can set the pages correctly again, but the page numbers reset again.

What am doing wrong?

Hi Herb,

Page numbering is continuous in a document unless you do something to change it. If you tell Word to restart page numbering in a section or start from a certain number, and then create a new section from that one, it will carry this setting with it.

Here is an Add-In that you can use to set your page numbering as continuous.

Otherwise, you can go to each section where the page number restarts and use the Format Page Number dialog to tell Word to continue from previous.
