Multiple root folder for OneDrive

I had made my peace with the fact that OneDrive is going to sync my individual OneDrive files to a different location than the Sharepoint Teams files, but now I'm trying to sync a new Sharepoint site and it wants to create a third folder in my home folder.

My company Sharepoint is called mycompany.sharepoint.com

Today, I created a new sharepoint site called "CustomerX"

In my home folder, I have:

  • OneDrive - mycompany.sharepoint.com
    • This contains folders like "Microsoft Teams Chat Files" and "Notebooks"
  • mycompany.sharepoint.com
    • This contains folders for each sharepoint site I've elected to sync to my computer
    • Each of these folders has a "Documents" folder, and then all the files are in here
  • My Company
    • The new "CustomerX" folder has been put here.

Why? Why must OneDrive change this around all the time? I simply want a folder structure that looks like this:

  • My Company
    • Personal Files
    • Site 1 Files
      • all files are here. No extra "Documents" folder to jump through
    • Site 2 Files
    • Site 2 Files

Is that not ever going to possible?

Is there not any way to force where OneDrive syncs new Sharepoint sites to, without removing everything and starting over each time?

Hi Jacob,

Thanks for your query in our forum.

We understand that your requirement is OneDrive sync folder and SharePoint library folder will all in a main folder in Finder sidebar. I tested at our end, the OneDrive-username folder and library folder will still show up in the Finder sidebar even we choose the location which is a main folder. We afraid it’s by design on Mac.

We truly suggest that you post this idea in OneDrive for Mac UserVoice, the related team will adapt high votes idea and keep bring better using experience. Your idea may become reality and bring benefit to more users.

Your understanding is highly appreciated.

Regards,

Ivy

    Hi Jacob,

    Thanks for coming back.

I understand that your concern is the SharePoint sync folder will be created as a new folder besides OneDrive sync folder.

In this article, when we user OneDrive sync client to Sync SharePoint sites libraries and folders, this folder will be added to the left navigation pane in Finder automatically. And it will beside the OneDrive sync folder. As it is created autocratically, we can’t change the location in Finder.

OneDrive UserVoice is a good place to collect feedback from users and we truly suggest you post idea there. Your idea may adapted by related teams to improve our products.

    Appreciate your cooperation and understanding.

    Regards,

    Ivy

No, I’m not talking about the side bar. I’m talking about the folder location on the hard drive. Why has sharepoint started syncing files to a new location, instead of one of 2 it had previously created and used?
