Something went wrong error on large document library

I have a large document library in SPO, but when I try to load the All Documents view I receive this error message

Whilst I understand that the threshold is 5000 items and my library has 8000 documents I have tried to follow the guidance in the following help article: https://support.office.com/en-us/article/manage-large-lists-and-libraries-in-sharepoint-b8588dae-9387-48c2-9248-c24122f07c59?ui=en-US&rs=en-US&ad=US

and still I encounter the issue. There is no sorting, grouping or totaling on the list and I am displaying only the Title field (which is indexed). It doesn't matter what field I use to display I always get this message. I've also tried to limit the items to display in batches (of 30) to help load times but nothing seems to work.

Does anyone have any ideas as how I get the view to load?

Thanks

No problem Hugo, appreciate the follow up.

The issue exists with a document library using the Modern Experience.  The library has approximately 8,000 items in it.  The content in the library loads find (all documents view) however when we try to group by or sort ascending  or descending we get the 'somethings gone wrong' error.

We don't experience these issues when using the library with the classic experience.

We have created indexes for the columns we are trying to group and sort by.

    Thanks in advance,

    Steve

    Hi Steve,

    Sorry for my late reply.

Do you mean you will encounter the same error message (Somethings went wrong) when you try to load the All documents view in the document library?

If you have tried the suggestions provided above but the issue persists, could you tell me the requested information above? Besides, what the meaning of "Can't sort, group etc. in Modern Experience"? Is it means you cannot enter the document library in the Modern experience so you cannot sort, group etc.?

    Best Regards,

    Hugo

    Hi Hugo,

    We're having the same issue.

SharePoint online document library with approx 8,000 items.  Can't sort, group etc in Modern Experience.  Can sort, group etc in Classic Experience.  Any suggestions?

    Regards,

    Steve

    Hi Lou1Eighty2,

To narrow down this issue, I would like to give you some suggestions as below:

    1. Switch to modern experience to see the result if you are already in the classic experience, you can click the Exit classic experience option on the lower left of the site page. (Knowing that you have referred this article: Manage large lists and libraries in SharePoint, but not sure whether you have tried this step) Conversely, you can click the Return to classic SharePoint option to check the result if you are already in the modern experience.
    2. Make sure the displayed items less than 5000 after you Indexed Columns.
    3. Switch to another browser to see the results.

If the issue persists, could you tell me more information about this issue?

    1. The test results of the suggestions provided above.
    2. Does issue only occur to the All Documents view in this library? Will the issue persist if you open another Document library and switch to the All Documents view?
    3. Will your colleagues encounter the same issue when he/she enter the same document library and switch to the All Documents view?

    Best Regards,

    Hugo
