How to overlap text in Word

how to create overlapping boxes/cells, other than text boxes? Can this be done with table cells? Have one row with two connected table cells, one to contain coding (backward position) and the other one with text which will be completed based on the coding contained in the first cell. Need the overlap so as to slide the text cell over the coding cell. So far only able to find this kind of overlap/sliding boxes with text boxes - doesn't work for my purpose. Thank you!

    Hi LV_5458,

Do you mean you would like to overlap two cells instead of using Text box in Word? If so, I think you can right click on the small “Arrow” icon of the table, select “Table Properties”. Then under Table wrapping, select Around. After that go to Positioning > Check option “Allow overlap” and Ok to save. Then repeat the processes for another table of cells.

After that you can click on the small “Arrow” to move over to the position you would like the cell to overlap with like below screenshot.

    Best regards,

    Dihao

Hi Dihao - Thank you for your reply and explanation. Unfortunately, I didn't realize that the overlapping cell is transparent such that both the coding in the backward cell and the text in the bring forward cell mingle together once they are overlapped. My goal was to enter the coding in the backward cell and slide over it the forward cell. I've seen an example of the end result somewhere but have not been able to figure out how it is done.

    Hi LV_5458,

Thank you for your reply. From your description, you have two different table of cells in Word document. The forward cell includes texts, and the backward cell is a “coding” cell. Your objective is to make these two cells can overlap with each other (One is at the front and another cell is at backward). Regarding to “Coding” cell, is that meaning you inserted the formula into the cell?

In addition, if it is convenient, could you provide a sample or screenshot you would like to achieve? It can also help us to have a better understanding on your requirements. Thank you.

    Best regards,

    Dihao
