Excel row height error

I updated my Office suite from Office 2011 for Mac to:

Microsoft Excel for Mac

Version 16.27 (19071500)

Product ID: 04044-900-095367

Now all my old Excel 2011 files have row height errors. Example: If I set the row height and column width to 4" then the result is row height = 3.75" and column width = 4.0". Also the ease and flexibility to set row height and column width is reduced in the new software because it defaults to pixels.

I can confirm the impression you have but the actual Row Height does appear to be correct. It looks like the indication on the Vertical Ruler is what is inaccurate. To confirm this I created a rectangle Shape & set its Height to 4 inches & used Format> Row Height to specify 4 inches as well. When aligned with the row the rectangle spans top to bottom of the row perfectly but the marking on the ruler indicates 3.75". I'd consider this a bug.

Please use the ☺︎ at the upper right corner of a workbook window displaying the conflict to submit a ☹ explaining the issue & include a screen shot. I've done the same.

Problem reported as you suggested. I hope MS will fix this problem. I can open my files in Excel 2011 and they are correct but if I open them in Excel 2019 the row height error is there ~ 6% error.

    Thanks for your assistance.

If I go to Page Layout on a New file and select the first empty cell, drag the height to 4" and drag the column to 4", when I print it out the height is 3.75" and the width is 4". In Office 2011 for Mac, the height and width on the same printer was 4".

    Hello,

I am an independent advisor, and I am trying to help other users in Community with my experience in Microsoft products.

The actual width that you see on the screen varies, depending on the width of the font defined for the Normal style of your workbook. Changing the default font also changes the column width. This behavior occurs because of the way that Excel stores the column width information for individual fonts.

Please refer to the article below for more information.

    I hope this information helps.

Please let me know if you have any more questions or require further help.

    Thank you
