MS WORD - Default proofing language error

Having an issue with the default proofing language on MS word. Every time I go to use spellcheck, it runs the spellcheck in French (Belgium), although my default settings have always been English (Ireland). I have changed the language preferences both in the spellcheck window and in Review>Language>Set Proofing Language , and in language preferences. Every time I go back to the spellcheck, the language reverts back to French (Belgium).

It is possible some of the literature in my document was written by others on MS Word with French as the preferred language, however there is nothing but English in my document. I'm just wondering why there is this error with the language.

Any assistance would be great thanks

In Word, there is a difference between the default proofing language and the language which in use for a particular text range.

To prevent Word from trying to guess the language and change languages at the insertion point, clear the check mark next to "Detect language automatically" in the Language dialog box (Review > Language > Set Proofing Language). This modification applies to future edits in all Word documents.

However, for existing documents, you will have to select all the content (Ctrl+A) and manually (re-)apply the correct language, again via the Language dialog box. When you do this, do not choose the Set As Default button; only choose OK. See also MVP Suzanne S. Barnhill's article at http://wordfaqs.ssbarnhill.com/MasterSpellCheck.htm.

Ignore Jegan's advice, you do not need to add anything to your Ribbon. The command is already available in the Status Bar.

    Hi Sofa

The fastest and most reliable option for multiple language proofing:

    1. Right-click on the Ribbon bar > Customize the Ribbon
    2. On the right pane press New Group (Optionally rename it to e.g. "Language")
    3. On the left pane select in Choose commands from: "All commands"
    4. Scroll to and select "Set Proofing Language" command and press "Add" button or drag and drop it in the newly created group.

After this, Select entire text by pressing Ctrl A, and select the proofing Language

Also clear "Detect language automatically" checked in the Language dialog,

Could you check this link for setting the proofing language:

Is English (Ireland) the default Windows language? Word's Language settings work most reliably when the default proofing language matches the default Windows language.
