Class Notebook in One Note not syncing.

I can make a regular Notebook in OneNote for Win10 on my computer (App from Win Store because it's no longer part of the O365 suite). This will sync with the online editor on OneNote online. It works totally FINE.

BUT...

When I create a Class Notebook in the online environment, and click to open it on my PC, it will not sync, and I cannot work on it offline.

When I try to create a Class NOtebook in the the app installed on my PC with the Class Notebook Add-On, it will NEVER sync with the online environment.

I've rebooted, unlinked and re-linked my O365 for business (it's what is offered at my post-sec edu institution, Niagara College). I've rebooted the software...the latest version is updated. I added the newest addon that was on the website. Nothing works.  This is the error message I get.

Because of the Canadian National Holiday, the college was closed. I'll be working with the IT team to see if any of your suggestions work. Thanks. I'll get back to you on the progress.

    Hi Charles,

Have you tried my suggestion to use Office 2016 client as a workaround? The issue may only happens to OneNote for Windows 10 app, so it’s worth to try this workaround to let you get rid of the trouble before we finally fix the issue for you.

In the meantime, we really appreciate your effort to provide the video, it lets us know more clearly how the issue looks like. And, according to your reply, the issue also happens when you sync at home, so we assume that the issue is not related to the network environment.

Besides, here are more suggestions for you

    1.       Start your computer on clean boot.

How to perform a clean boot in Windows

It starts Windows with a minimal set of drivers and startup programs, so that we can determine whether a background program is interfering with your game or program.

    2.       Try reset OneNote for Windows 10 app, it can help us check if it is caused by OneNote cache or credential:

    a. Right click Windows key>select Apps &features.

    b. Select OneNote.

    c. Click Advanced options>click Reset.

For further analysis, we also want to confirm with you if other users also meet the issue, such as other students or teachers, we need to confirm if the issue is related to your tenant and affected all the users of your tenant.

You are welcome to post back, I will keep working on this.

    Regards,

    Qing

    Hi Charles,

    Thanks for your reply.

I have tested this on our side, I didn’t meet the issue on our side.

I am sorry about the issue caused some inconvenience for you, I will try my best to help you.

To narrow down if the issue is related to OneNote for Windows 10, I suggest you install OneNote 2016 to sync class notebook to check the result:

Install or reinstall OneNote 2016 for Windows

If the issue still exists, you are welcome to post back, I will try my best to help you.

    Regards,

    Qing

I suggest you try the following steps to check the result:

    1. Close the class notebook.
    2. Reopen OneNote for Windows 10.
    3. Click Notebook>select More notebook.
    4. Then select the class notebook to open to check the result.

If the issue still exists, I want to collect the following information for further analysis:

    1. The version of OneNote.
    2. Can you open the class notebook normally before?
    3. Have you tried another network to check if it can be synced successfully?
    4. Did other users also meet the issue?

    Hello Qing.

Thanks for your attempts to help, but it doesn't work.

I've captured a video of all my attempts to use Class Notebook as well as regular OneNote so you can see the differences of behaviour both online and on my PC App.

    Here's the link:

    https://www.scr8*****m/t/b***

I don't have another network to try this on. It has to work on this one.

I have tried from home, and the problem is the same.

I'm piloting this software for a department of 30 professors. If it doesn't work, we'll go back to using other products. The college has adopted O365 for us, but if the apps cause this much trouble we'll go back to google or a different LMS, it's important for me that we get this to work.

    Warmly,

    Charles

    Hi Charles,

Thanks for posting the question on our forum.

Based on my test, we can sync the class notebook normally.

    Regards,

    Qing
