Excel Hyperlinks in Sharepoint

We use an excel spreadsheet as our Diary document, that contains hyperlinks in cells that link to word documents

Once we put the spreadsheet onto sharepoint the hyperlinks no longer function.

Removing the link to re-add the hyperlink directing into the sharepoint spreadsheet version does not provide an option to enter a link to a document, only to either another place in the same document or to a URL location.

Is there anyway to add hyperlinks to other documents as you can when its not on sharepoint?

    Hi Just-Training Info,

Sorry for the inconvenience caused by this issue.

Based on my test, if we insert a hyperlink to local document and upload it to a SharePoint Online site, it will show 404 Not Found error when we click on this link. And after we upload this document to site, it will download this document when we click on it.

If we insert a hyperlink which links to a SharePoint Online Word document. We can click this link in Excel Online and Open this Word document Online. We can also right-click this link to edit and change the document URL.

To narrow down this issue, we suggest you try these steps and see if this issue persists:

    1. Try to link other document in site library by clicking the document-> Copy link and paste it in the Excel document.

    1. Try to use another Excel document and see if you can link to Word document.
    2. Change the library and see if the link can work when you open the Excel in online.

So, I want to confirm these information to you:

    1. Which document you want to link? Local document or SharePoint Online site.
    2. Is there any error when you click on the hyperlink in Excel Online? Or the link is grey which you can’t click it.
    3. Can you see the Edit hyperlink option when you right-click this link in Excel Online?

    1. Where did you create this site? SharePoint Online or SharePoint Server?

    Regards,

    Ivy

I am very new to Sharepoint, so I am not very proficient but I am getting there.

I completely didnt get the fact that the Excel spreadsheet was acting as a web accessed document and that the link to the WORD document I was trying to link to would be a URL location, and not as it was before when it was on our own computer.

Therefore I moved all the WORD documents to my sharepoint site to start off with.

I then removed all the hyperlinks from my original spreadsheet while on my computer, then I uploaded this new version to the Sharepoint site.

I then opened the SHAREPOINT spreadsheet on my computer, as the web spreadsheet. With it open on a tab, I then went back to the Sharepoint site, and went to the list of WORD documents i had previously moved across. Right Clicked on each document and clicked COPY LINK

Then I went to the spreadsheet to the cell I wanted to paste the hyperlink in, right clicked in the cell - clicked Hyperlink to open the small new Hyperlink window and pasted the link into the URL box - first removing anything that was in there to make sure the box is initially blank, otherwise it duplicates the HTTP wording.

I then repeated this for each document I wanted to link to from my spreadsheet, and now it is all working fine.

Once you realise you are working as web based documents, it all becomes clear, but it just didnt initially click.
