Hi Everyone,
I have an issue that is giving me a headache, whenever i want to install SQL Server Management Studio i get an error just after double clicking the .exe.
ERROR: Invalid location. Please enter a valid location to proceed SQL.
tried lots of possible way but couldn't solve it, at last changed the laptop.
but i want to solve this issue, is there any one that can help me with it.

Have you tried to remove that key "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio"?

This is one is when you can go further, but i get that error just after opening it. no reg no policy even created or accepted yet. so i cant find that in this location.
Could you provide a screenshot?
The installer is running as admin I suppose.
And if you change the location?
Have you anything here HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\UserData\<SID>\ (OR here HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall)?

Remove this registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio
When i change the location i get access denied msg, and i am running that as an admin.
Okey, have you try to use a third party app to check all obsoletes registries entries ? (CCLeaner for e.g) ...
I changed the install root directory (in my case from D: back to C:) by editing the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio\18\SSMSInstallRoot and installation worked. Thanks!
