I'm not sure which particular symbol you are referring to; however, in Word, you can insert symbols via Insert | Symbols | More Symbols.

To insert §, hold down the ALT key and type 0167 on the numeric keypad.  If your computer does not have a numeric keypad, you will need to use the Insert>Symbol dialog.

Thanks ... found it.  It wasn't where I expected and wasn't in my recent used, but several others that I never use were.

Thanks, nice to know there is a number I can use...it just disappeared from my recently used list.  However, several I never use were.

In the Symbol dialog box, you can assign a custom keyboard shortcut to any character that you want to be able to insert quickly.
