Excel Crashing..

Hi

I have a person here at my office that consistently add a lot of formatting to her Excel Spreadsheets to the point where you can't work on them anymore. Excel simply hangs and never responds. Even the Excel Clean Excess Cell Formatting can not resolve the issue.

What I would like to find is how to diagnose exactly what is wrong in the formatting causing the problem or find out what the bug is in Excel.

Any thoughts how to diagnose this problem. I do have a "Troubled" spreadsheet that I can consistently cause Excel to freeze up with.

FYI-I am able to "Clean" the spreadsheet by opening it in LibreOffice Calc and saving it. This seems to remove the excessive formatting.

Thanks

    The machine is already X64.

I can assure it has nothing to do with the formulas and calculations referred o in these articles. It 100% is due to conditional formatting. This user has a knack for highlighting Columns and Rows and formatting, conditional formatting, (all 32k cols and 1m rows although in the xlsx i currently have no more then 10 cols in use and < 1,000 rows). Shortly after Excel freezes.

As I mentioned above I can open the xlsx in Libreoffice Calc which does not support as many rows and cols so it removes them, save the excel, re-open in excel and all is good.

I would like to find out what is wrong with either Excel or my XLSX to get this problem resolved.

I can screen share to demonstrate as needed.

    Hello,

If the user is using a 32 bit, they may need to be upgraded to 64 bit. Also, reducing the number of open applications may be helpful. In addition try this turning off automatic workbook calculations.

File > options > Formulas > Calculation options (Chose Manual)
