Problem with opening Excel files

A  relatively recent problem with Excel on my laptop has been that it doesn't load a file at first attempt. At the next attempt it does, but with the "recovered" file in the left panel - which is exactly the same as the file opened.

I have Office 365 Home on a PC with Windows 10 Professional, 8 GB RAM and 1 TB Hard disc.

I have always endeavoured to keep my PC updated

Security is provided by Norton 360

Please advise

    Hi Jahar,

I’d like to confirm if you’re still encountering the same concern with opening Excel files. If so, does the issue occur on all Excel files? Have you already tried opening it in safe mode since it was mentioned that the app doesn’t load the file at first attempt? If you haven’t done this yet, you may open or launch Excel in safe mode. This will help us isolate further if the issue is with the Excel application itself. For the instructions in opening an Office app in safe mode, you may click this link.

If the issue doesn't persist while in safe mode, you can use the instructions below to identify which add-in is causing it to happen:

    1. Click File > Option > Add-ins, then click Go in the Manage: COM Add-ins.
    2. Clear the checkbox if you'll see any add-ins, then disable them.
    3. Close the Excel app and relaunch it after.
    4. You may try if that would help resolving the issue.

Then, you may perform an Office repair to check if that would help address the issue with opening files from Excel. Refer to this link for the instructions or you may see this clip:

Please respond to this thread to let me know how the issue progresses. Similarly, if you have more questions, please inform me by replying to this post.

Do you leave the laptop on all the time, in sleep/hibernation? and are the excel docs open at the time?

Are these docs located on the local PC or OneDrive?

    Hi!

    Thanks for your reply.

    1. Sleep / hibernation settings are scheduled to activate after a few hours of inactivity
    2. Yes, documents are all stored in OneDrive. Please note, I also have a work PC with comparable configuration and Surface 2 Pro. I dont have a problem with Excel in them.

    Looking forward to your response.

    Thanks
