IMAP migration successfully synced from hotmail to o365 before pointing the records to o365.

After pointing the records to o365 sync gets failed and  we have used outlook.office365.com as end point with143 port

Hi Mohamed,

Sorry for the delay get back to you since I was out of office. Based on your description, you have a custom domain added to your hotmail account. Now you have added this domain to your Office 365 tenant. In this scenario, since one custom domain cannot work for two various email service, please try to release your domain from hotmail side. You may refer to Change your email domain in Outlook.com Premium to change your hotmail account back to use hotmail.com domain. Meanwhile, if there're DNS records pointing to hotmail, please remove these DNS records.

Since hotmail account belongs to Outlook.com account, we're not familiar with Outlook.com email service. To identify the DNS records, you can refer to the Create DNS records at any DNS hosting provider for Office 365 to keep the Office 365 DNS records preserved and delete the others. Especially, please make sure the MX record is pointing to Office 365 only. In Office 365 online environment, if your custom domain is contoso.com, then the MX record should be contoso-com.mail.protection.outlook.com.

    Hi Marvin,

    In my case I was using a custom domain name for Hotmail,

    For eg, ******@123.com (instead of hotmail)

    Now when completed the migration, we have changed the onmicrosoft.com to 123.com

    Mean while, when the DNS records got replicated; Some Emails were delivered to old account.

    Now I am unable to sync that Emails to my O365 tenant.

    Kindly suggest on this.

    Hi Mohamed,

    As far as I know, IMAP migration is to migrate your IMAP mailbox data to an Office 365 account. It's not about converting IMAP accounts to Office 365 account. So if the IMAP migration have successfully synced from hotmail to Office 365, you can just start your journey with Office 365 account.

    Of course, you can still use the hotmail account as an external account. And it's unnecessary to change the account settings of your hotmail account. So if you changed the hotmail account settings, please refer to POP, IMAP, and SMTP settings for Outlook.com to change it back.

    While if you changed the account settings for your Office 365 account to configure as an IMAP or POP account, please refer to the following picture. And we strongly recommend you configure Office 365 account as Exchange account.

    And if it's not the case, may I know where did you find the error message? Further, for which account did you change the account settings?
