Good morning,

I've been stuck on a problem and can't seem to find the answer.

I am want to use the IF function (or the function that applies) to return text based on text in another cell.

Example:

I'm using conditional formatting in row K =IF(I12="cooler","n/a","") and it is not working.

I can get it to work if I enter the formula directly in the cell, but not with Con Formatting

    Hi RyanBiggs

Greetings! I am Vijay, an Independent Advisor. I am here to work with you on this problem.

Result of CF should be TRUE for FALSE. For example, the formula which you have given in your post should be

    =I12="cooler"

The cell needs to carry your formula IF(I12="cooler","n/a","") which will give the result n/a or blank. Formatting will be provided by CF where formula has to be =I12="cooler"

    Hi Ryan

You must enter that formula into the actual cell you want the result to show in

In Excel, use a formula in a cell to show a value, Conditional formatting is no good for settings a value in a cell, it is just used to format the look of that call
