Modern: quick edit - bizarre design!!

Classic sites with modern ui set as default at tenant level (don't ask) which overrides classic settings in lists/libraries.

Constant bouncing around between classic and modern is annoying enough but today when I click "quick edit" from a classic list in modern ui, it opens the classic view in a iframe....

Does Msft really think that's acceptable?

    Hi webbrewers3,

Currently, we cannot select classic experience as the default experience in tenant level. So you could try following the suggestions and using a PowerShell script to enable or disable the modern experience for a single site collection or for a list of site collections as provided by the SharePoint Modernization scanner.

Back to the original issue, we think the issue might be caused by the changes between April 24th and May 31st. Given the situation, we would like to confirm the following points:

1.Does the issue occur in all libraries or lists?

2.If you use the option "Return to classic SharePoint" and use Quick Edit, can it display correctly? After that, clicking Exit classic experience option, can you use Quick Edit successfully in modern view?

    Regards,

    Eli

I saw this but what does it actually mean? Does it mean I can set lists to classic and that setting WON'T be overridden by the tenant level setting?

And how does this affect my original question? Classic lists in quick edit appearing in an iframe?

    Hi webbrewers3,

Modern Experience has been the basis for innovation throughout SharePoint and OneDrive, although classic mode remains supported and available. On Monday 1/14/2019, Microsoft will announce publicly that starting April 24, 2019, it will no longer be possible to restrict an entire tenant to classic mode for lists and libraries.   Lists and libraries may still use classic mode using the granular opt-out switches that we provide at the site collection, site, list, and library levels.  Additionally, lists that use certain features and customizations that are not supported by modern will still be automatically switched to classic mode.

Starting April 24rd, 2019, it will no longer be possible to restrict an entire organization (tenant) to classic mode for lists and libraries. The setting that previously allowed this opt-out will no longer appear in the UI, and tenants that were previously using the setting to opt out of modern will be switched to using the modern experience by default.  This change will roll out between April 24th and May 31st. For more details, please refer tothis article.

If you still wish to restrict users to the classic experience, you have several tools to help them:

    • Identify the impact. The SharePoint Modernization scanner identifies sites and lists that have customizations that are not supported by modern UI.  Although many of these lists will automatically remain in classic mode, they may wish to keep some sites running entirely in classic to avoid end users switching between different user experience modes inside a single site.
    • **Disable modern experience for specific site collections.**Administrators can use a PowerShell script to enable or disable the modern experience for a single site collection or for a list of site collections as provided by the SharePoint Modernization scanner.  Users can still use the “return to classic” option on modern views of lists or libraries

    Hope this helps.

    Regards,

    Eli

I think as a I said the tenant level setting overrides that. What's the solution?

    Hi webbrewers3,

Yes, the new experience is the default view in the classic sites. Considering you don't like this, we kindly suggest you go to Site Settings >Site Collection Features >Activate SharePoint Lists and Libraries experience to set the classic experience as the default for an entire site. For more details, please refer to Switch the default experience for lists or document libraries from new or classic.

Feel free to post back and let us know if it can meet your requirement.

    Regards,

    Eli
