OneNote Sync Error Code: 0x2

Hi, My Notebook in OneNote is not syncing. I'm getting OneNote Sync error code 0x2. The detail of the error says "We can't access this section file or the attached file because the file was moved...". I think it might be because I moved the OneDrive one note file from one folder to another through Microsoft Explorer instead of through my online OneDrive account. I saw after the fact that this procedure is not a best practice. How do I get OneNote to find my moved Notebook? - Many Thanks!

Then create a new empty notebook.

Try to copy the sections over to the new notebook. If this produces a similar message try copy on page level.

And for the future:

Move notebooks on OneDrive only by using OneDrive Website.

Procedure:

  1. Make sure notebook is synced
  2. close notebook (on all devices)
  3. move notebook
  4. re-open notebook

    Thank you for your response. I tried moving it back but I still get the same error. If I try to close the notebook I get the error:

    I'm not sure what this will do if I say yes. Thank you for your help.

    If your notebook still exists on OneDrive:

    Unsynced data ?

    Yes --> move the notebook back to the old place

    No --> close notebook + re-open
