Deleted items from sharepoint

We have several sites

each site with its members and owners

2 sites contain same members

We are syncing files on computers through onedrive

all up to date.

we are using webroot shredding option to completely delete files when we delete it from computer

some are using windows 10 and some are using windows 8.1

The problem is the following

when someone (X) is deleting file, we found that sometimes it appears in another person (Y) local recycle bin

I also suspect that anyone under these 2 sites delete files, they appear in that person (Y) recycle bin on his computer

Kind Regards

Simon

    Hi Simon,

Thanks for posting on our forum.

According to your description, it is a normal behavior.

As you have synced the files to your computer, the files are still syncing between computer and SharePoint site.

When you delete the file on your computer, it will delete from the SharePoint site.

If other users also sync the site to their computer, as the file has been deleted form the site, it will also been deleted form their computer.

So the files appeared on the users’ recycle bin.

If you didn’t want to affect other users, I suggest you refer to the following steps to delete the file and it only deleted the file on your computer not affecting SharePoint site:

    1. Right click the OneDrive icon.
    2. Click Settings>select Account.
    3. Select Unlink this PC under the account.
    4. Then the SharePoint site’s folder will become a normally folder.
    5. Delete the file.

    Regards,

    Qing

    Hi Simon,

    Thanks for your updates.

About the other users' situation, here are some possibilities, you can check if other users have the situation:

    1. The users have stopped synced the site, such as no network or Unlink this computer.
    2. The users are using OneDrive on-demand feature, it can save space on your device by making files online only.

It means that the file will not be saved to the users' computer, the file icon display as below, when you deleted the file, the users can't found the file on Recycle Bin:

You can check the detailed information via the following article:

Save disk space with OneDrive Files On-Demand for Windows 10

    Regards,

    Qing

Thanks for your reply, however the strange thing is that there is only one user that these deleted files appear on her local recycle bin.

I mean there are 4 or 5 member under a sharepoint site

they all syncing the site to their computers

Deleted items appear on only one user recycle bin, others don't have this issue.

    Kind Regards

    Simon
