Good morning. I am here to report a variety of Excel issues. This ranges across laptops (Lenovo mostly), desktop and different versions of Windows 10 and Windows 7. We do not update our systems that often, but what is changing are the frequent updates for
Office. Here are the issues we've seen.
We are running Microsoft Office 365 Pro Plus for our business, so we get the latest and greatest
usually.
- Scrolling graphical bug 1:
Occurrence: sporadic and sometimes un-re-creatable
Pattern: none seen so far
Lenovo T480s
Windows 10 1809
File size, anywhere from kilobytes to hundreds of megabytes
When scrolling through rows of data, a visual bug occurs where the cell rows disappear. Hopefully I've attached a file showing this but I've pixelated the data in case any of it was sensitive info.. It's like it fails to show anything, cutting right across
the row number in the middle sometimes and showing gray swaths of nothing where the cell grid and row numbers should exist. Nevermind the question of if we can interface with it. It's not working.
We've reformatted and set up 2 PCs to try to resolve this. We've run all Lenovo updates for firmware and hardware and even tested it without those updates. We've even tried manual updates to the device in the device manager by having it check for updates.
We've tried Excel safe mode. Safe mode Excel was brought up as an idea, but never implemented. We've checked for addons that may cause the issue and even have questioned on if Outlook being open or having addons related can cause this.
According to the user, he's seen it occur inside of Outlook when previewing files.
At some point, the user got a whole different Lenovo, a model I don't have, and he claims the problem doesn't occur there. No one else has this problem it seems except for 1 other person, but it doesn't occur with most all of our desktops or laptops or as far
as is reported. Perhaps there is an incompatibility with your software and certain video drivers.
2. Scrolling graphical bug 2:
Occurrence: Consistent, repeatable
Custom PC model
Windows 10 1803
While in Excel and in page layout view, as soon as you scroll up or down and click a cell, there appears to be a misalignment with the visual of what's on screen and the selection box. Imagine the selection field as a separate layer from the visual field of
cells, text and the grid outlines. When selecting either by 1 cell or by a whole row, you'll see that your selection is several pixels up or down (maybe just up) relative to the visual field of what you'e actually clicking on.
You'll see cell border lines going through your selection box because if this misalignment, and this makes it hard to work with the sheet. A temp fix is zooming, which realigns things, only to break as soon as you scroll.
I tested this on my PC with the same file > No issue.
I did quick and long repairs of Office > Bug occurred.
Tested in Excel safe mode by holding ctrl when opening Excel > Bug occurred.
Current solution: Change from page layout to normal view. This prevents the bug perfectly. Still this is a visual bug that needs resolving in my opinion.
