I am trying to share an excel chart in a shared word document to update automatically when changes are make to the excel chart. The link will randomly change source locations when a particular user prints the word document and create and error invalid link, which is easily reset by changing the source back to the original source. Does anyone have any ideas what may be causing this error?

Since the files are located in your shared drive, it'd be best to contact your local IT for further assistance regarding this issue. There may be some permissions that needs to be set.

If you have any other concern, don't hesitate to post back in the community.

The files are located on a shared drive. The link seems to break when one specific person references the file. Thanks for your suggestions thus far!

I appreciate your response. May I ask, where are the two files (Excel and Word) saved? Is it in OneDrive or are you using a shared drive? If it's stored in shared drive, you may need to contact your local administrator. However, if the files are stored in OneDrive, then I can confirm that it is normal for the links to break, since the location of the files would be on the cloud storage of the sharer.

    Thanks.

The error message is "Error! Not a valid link." Is there a way to prevent the link from breaking?

    Hello amateur-coder,

I'd like to ask for the exact error messages you're getting. How is the Word document being shared to different users? If you're sharing the Word document via OneDrive, there's a possibility that the link between the Word document and Excel spreadsheet would break.

May I also ask for the build and version of your Office? To get the build and version of the Office installed on your computer, check this article.

To notify me and have me get back to you, simply reply to this post.
