Onedrive keeps causing error message "The file

Hi,

I am currently using Windows 10.  I have installed OneDrive app and have the OneDrive app running in the background to sync up.  The problem happens constantly when I have the file explorer open showing the content of the onedrive folder.  The system will pop up error messages constantly for Explorer.exe "This file does not have an app associated with it for performing this action. Please install an app or, if one is already installed, create an association in the Default Apps settings page." The error message window will pop up every few minutes.  The only way to stop this is by closing the window showing the content of the onedrive folder.  I believe this problem is associated with OneDrive app.  Once I quit the app, this problem stops.  Can you please help with this? I pay for my ondrive service and this is very annoying and frustrating.

Thank you!

EJ

    Dear EJ,

First I’d like you to confirm whether you are using the latest version of the OneDrive sync client. If no, I suggest you download the latest version of the sync client from the article.

Meanwhile, I suggest you follow the steps in the article to reset the OneDrive sync client and then restart it to see the result.

Based on the error message provided, the issue may be related to the file association on your Windows 10, I suggest you go to Default Apps>click on Reset in Reset to the Microsoft recommended defaults and then restart the computer to see the result.

Moreover, some issues may be related to your local user profile, I recommend you log into your computer with a new user profile and do a test to see the result. If the issue doesn’t happen in the new user profile, I suggest you post a new thread in the Windows category on our forum for expert help.

If the suggestions above don’t solve the issue in your environment, we have a specific channel to cope with the OneDrive sync client’s related questions and issues. I suggest you click on the OneDrive sync client>More>Get Help to report the issue to our related team as soon as possible so that they can involve more resources to fix the issue in your environment.

    Best Regards,

    Cliff
