Can't paste text into OneNote

I am using a Google Pixel 1, which i just updated to Android 10 about a week ago. Since then i have had the following issues with pasting text into OneNote:

1. Unable to paste any text at all.

  • I have tried copying text from various sources- Chrome browser, other apps, etc. and the source of the text makes no difference.

-I have confirmed that my clipboard and pasting is working in general on the phone by pasting copied text into other apps. There are no issues when pasting text anywhere else besides OneNote.

2. Pastes out-of-date clipboard contents

Sometimes OneNote will allow me to paste text into it, but then if i copy some new text and try to paste that new text into OneNote, OneNote only places the first bit of text that i copied- it is unware apparently that i have copied a new text segment. I have also confirmed this is only an issue with onenote. When i try to paste the newly copied text into any other app, I have no issue. OneNote is the only app that refuses to paste up-to-date contents of my clipboard.

I have also tried uninstalling OneNote from my phone and reinstalling it- no improvement.

Any ideas how to solve this?

Did you find a solution to the problem?

I have the same issue, which is quite annoying as someone who uses the Android onenote app many times throughout the day.

For me, the problem occurs with the latest OneNote app version (16.0.12026.20114) on the latest android version (10) on the Google Pixel 3a.

After some testing, the problem seems to occur as follows:

Paste only works for the last copy that was done before the app was opened. So a workaround is to close the app, copy something, and then open OneNote again and paste the content. But this would have to be done for each item! If you keep the app open, it will just paste the old entry again.

I don't think that it is necessarily an Android/Pixel problem, because with all other apps that I tested so far, it works fine!

Thanks a lot for your help!

FWIW I actually have a 365 sub so I've taken advantage of their "paid support" and am currently on round 3 of chat/phone support with them. They haven't been able to figure it out and we've done a lot of un/reinstalling, clearing caches, and viewing clipboard managers. A Tier 3 Support Engineer to whom the issue has been escalated is supposed to call me today.

When they get it figured out or give up (whichever comes first), I'll post an update here. :)

    Onenote Build version:

    16.0.12026.20114

I don't have an office 365 subscription. Just a personal Microsoft account and the OneNote app from the Google play store.

The issue started when i updated my phone to Android 10.

I'll post the results of testing this on another Android device as soon as I get a chance.

    Hi Matthew,

We appreciate the information you’ve provided. Let’s try isolate the issue further. May we know the exact build and version of OneNote for Android are you using? Do you have other Android devices that you can check with if the same issue occurs in OneNote? Are you using an account with Office 365 subscription? When does the issue has started? Were there any updates or changes made to your device prior to the issue?

By the way, we’ve tried the OneNote app installed on the Android device that we have on our end and I was able paste from other apps to OneNote with no issues.

    We’ll wait for your response.
