I keep getting request for permission when i try to open some Word documents. Not sure why this is or how to resolve it but it's extremely annoying. Any advice? I'm running Mojave on Mac OS 10.14.5

Kathy, I think I may have got it.  ON the word document itself to the right of the message, there is a little sign in field/box.  I clicked on that. signed in with my password, and now I can open and save new Word files.  I had not noticed that box before.  I hope that is the simple fix!

    Hi Kathy,

Thanks for posting on our forum.

Firstly, I suggest you restarting your Mac to check if it can solve the issue.

As the user who meet a similar permission issue solved it by restarting computer, you can refer to the following thread:

I just complete an important document in word and when I try to save as, it won't let me. I get a message that I need to be granted access but how do you get granted access?

If the issue still exists, you can refer to Jim’s suggestion of the following thread:

Message: Word cannot complete the save due to a file permission error.

If you still meet the permission issue, could you please provide the following information for further analysis?

    1. The version of Office. (Click Word>select About Word)
    2. The screenshot of error message.
    3. Check if all files meet the issue or only special file.
    4. Where did the file store, computer or OneDrive?
    5. When did the issue occur? Which operation have you taken before the issue occurred, such as updating Office?

    Regards,

    Qing

Kathy,  I have exactly the same issue.  I've restarted imac, but it's still there, and no I have a "SIGN IN TO OFFICE We need your help to associate this device with our account."  Of course, I cannot figure out how to do that on the MS site.  So, in the meantime I'm using my macbook.  That's not help. Sorry. But commiseration.

Hi. No the problem isnt solved. Although when i first reinstalled Word it seemed to have resolved the issue. Now its back again and on my main iMac i cannot open or save Word documents. Again it asks for permission and denies me access. Funnily enough on my macbook air it is ok. But that might be because i dudnt do any updates for Word.

I see others have had the problem. I think its a Microsoft issue.
