I have created a new custom list in SharePoint online and now suddenly I am getting this error each time I try to open an item or create a new item.

"Unable to find the default display form for list <list name>

Any ideas how to resolve?

Thanks

    Hi Rochelle,

    If this issue occurs on a classic site, you may refer to the following steps to fix the error on SharePoint Designer 2013:

    1. Open the site in SharePoint Designer 2013;
    2. In the left navigation panel, click Lists and Libraries;
    3. In the right side, click to open the problematic list;
    4. In the right side, click the New button in the Forms section;
    5. Enter the file name, then select "New item form", check Set as default form for the selected type;
    6. Also create a Edit form and a Display form by the above step;
    7. Remove all the other old forms by selecting them and click on the Delete button in the ribbon.

    Please let us know if you have any further concerns.

    Best Regards,

    Nathan

    Is this relevant in SharePoint Online? I thought this solution only works for SharePoint 2010/2013 on prem?

    Thanks

    Hi Rochelle,

    Thank you for posting your question in our community. According to the error message, please try Stephen's solution in the following thread:

    "To solve my problem, I left the DataFormWebPart on the page, but removed all the visual elements (toolbars, back buttons, data table, etc.) from it, so it is invisible to the user. Then, I added in my custom web part and it works perfectly."

    SPException: Unable to find the default display form

    If the above steps couldn't help, I'd appreciate it if you could tell us the detailed steps of creating the custom list so that we could test it for you from our side.

    Best Regards,

    Nathan
