Error code: 0x8

Every morning, when I start my laptop, I get this less than helpful error from One Note. I have to click OK to kill OneNote, and it relaunches. It doesn't happen unless my laptop goes into powersave mode. I'm never there where it happens.

Something happened and we can't write to the notebook cache. It might be because of a change in file permissions or because of a serious disk issue. OneNote will exit now.

Please contact technical support for assistance.

Error code: 0x8

I need help to determine which file is the problem (if any).

Error 0x8 means "Not enough memory resources are available to process this command." vague as well. Any idea how to tell which resource?

I have the stack of the error, but not seeing any friendly objects there to find the file name or the path that's failing.

Thanks, Jason

    Hi Jason H - SQL,

Thanks for reaching out. I hope you're having a great day, in spite of the issues you're experiencing with OneNote. Let's try to address your concern.

I'd like to verify, which OneNote version are you using? Is it for OneNote for Windows or OneNote 2016? Does the issue occur on both application?

Kindly make sure that all Office updates are installed. To check, see this link for instruction on how to install updates.

I suggest that you repair OneNote. If the issue still persists after repairing OneNote, I highly recommend that you reinstall Office. There's a possibility that there are corrupted system files that's hindering OneNote to work properly.

I can see that you have an Office 365 subscription, since you tagged the thread under Microsoft 365 Family. You may contact our Office 365 chat support team at no cost, to take advantage of your subscription.

I'm happy to send a memory dump of the error.

Microsoft OneNote for Office 365 MSO

Office gets updates regularly, and all functions work fine until sync happens while the laptop is in sleep mode and the error pops up and crashes.
