I'm trying to resize older PPT presentations which are in 4:3 ratio to newer 16:9 ratios. When the first slide is changed, the entire presentation is changed (good thing) but I lose the backgrounds. Any suggestions?

Try changing to a new Custom size that's 13.333 x 7.5 inches.
Yep, same size as the normal Widescreen setting but NOT by choosing Widescreen.
