Hi support,

I have the following problem: I tried to import a project into MS Project using Excel. I did the mapping, no error messages during the import, but after a few seconds loading, the Project appears with blank screen/gantt etc.. nothing was imported. I tried several thing but nothing happened.

The following columns are included: ID, Outline level, Task Name, Start date, Finish date, Duration (I excluded later) and a few Text columns.

Thanks

    Hi Dániel,

Thank you for posting your question in this community. Based on your description, you were trying to import Excel data into Project application, but you found that there is no data be imported into your Project file and there is no error message about import failure.

I also did a test from my side, which I created an Excel xlsx workbook and import with “New from Excel workbook” wizard in Project according to the steps in this article: Import Excel data into Project. The data can be imported correctly into my Project file.

    My Excel workbook structure:

    The output in Project:

If your import steps are different from above, please point out and let us know.

In addition, please also share the below information with us to further narrow down the problem.

1: What is your Project application version and update channel? You can go to File > Account > Product Information and share a screenshot of “Product Information” page with us at your convenience.

2: Does this problem occur in all project files you imported?

3: You can try to create an Excel workbook with some sample data and see whether the new profile file can be imported successfully.

    Best regards,

    Dihao

    Dear Dihao,

After placing the values into a new Excel spreadsheet, it could be imported properly, with error messages only inf a few rows. During the excersice I was wondering what could be the problem at the first time and tried to clean my data as much as it was possible. Here I would like to list and share with you all my considerations:

    1. Duration column contained minus numbers which could crash the import
    2. I had a status column which was mapped in Project as 'Status' but the values in Project for that field were different so I chose 'Text1' finally
    3. In a very few cases (5-6) in the Start/Finish column the date was not a real date format in my Excel but Text
    4. In one column of my Excel, which was a Text column, I had line brakes which I don't think that Project likes

Thank you again for your help,

    Daniel
